Syllabus
In Ceramics, we will be working with clay. This is a course designed for students of all levels, from those who have never touched clay to those who are very experienced with this medium. We will learn about the history of clay in many forms, and will be learning about many different types of hand building such as pinching, coiling, slab building, and possibly throwing (on the pottery wheel) toward the end of the trimester. We will learn about kiln firing, and also about different decoration techniques such as sgraffito, underglazing, glazing, oxides, and others. We will focus on skill building and craftsmanship as well as creating successful pieces of art. Students will also learn how to participate in a critique, and will evaluate their own projects as well.
LATE WORK WILL ONLY BE ACCEPTED ONE DAY AFTER DUE DATE! LATE WORK WILL RECEIVE A 20% DEDUCTION IF ONE DAY LATE, AND WILL RECEIVE NO CREDIT TWO OR MORE DAYS LATE. Archived plans CERAMICS I May 25-29 We are working on our Claes Oldenburg Sculptures this week! May 18-22 We are firing Slab Mugs this week and possibly starting our Claes Oldenburg Sculptures! May 11-15 We are finishing our 100 bowls project! We may start our slab mugs this week as well! May 4-8 We are finishing our bowls this week! April 27- May 1 We will be continuing our bowl-making this week! April 20-24 We will be firing bowls and creating more bowls this week! We will also be helping set up and tear down the Art Show! April 13 - 17 We will be glazing our coil pots and taking our finished pinch pots out of the kiln! we will also start producing bowls for our empty bowls fundraiser in the fall! March 30 -April 3 We will be finishing our coil pots and firing our pinch pots! We will also be applying clear glaze to our pinch pots and glaze-firing them this week! March 23-27 We are going to be learning about coiling and starting our coil pots! We will also be firing our pinch pots this week! March 16-20 We are going to be going over the Syllabus and Rules, and creating labels for our shelves. We will then be learning about Ceramics techniques and vocabulary and starting our first project... Pinch Pots! |

March 23-27 We are continuing our metamorphosis pinch project and will be starting plan for our Hawaiian Tiki project! March 16-20 We are going to be going over the Syllabus and Rules, and creating labels for our shelves. We will then be learning about Ceramics techniques and vocabulary and learning about how to reclaim/ recycle clay! We will also begin a pinch metamorphosis project as well! |
